AQUA SEAL Water-Based Pool Coating
AQUA SEAL is a water-based acrylic emulsion coating which provides an attractive low maintenance finish on plaster or concrete pools.
It has a low-sheen, satin-type finish that is compatible with rubber base coatings.
AQUA SEAL has unique features that are not typical of epoxy and rubber base coatings:
- Can be applied to damp surfaces
- Can be recoated in 4 hours (minimum)
- Pool can be filled after 48 hours (minimum)
- No solvent fumes
- Self-priming qualities
AQUA SEAL is available in four stock colors.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Bare Concrete or Plaster
Two coats are required on bare surfaces. New concrete should cure 30 days before coating.
The surface must be clean before coating. First, scrub the entire surface with tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) solution in water. Mix one cup
(8 oz.) dry TSP powder for each gallon of water as a washing solution. Rinse with water immediately. Then, the surface should be acid
washed with a 10% solution of muriatic acid in water, or 2 lbs of sulfamic acid crystals with one gallon of water. One gallon of either
solution will etch approximately 100 sq. ft. Rinse immediately. Finally, repeat the TSP wash to neutralize any remaining traces of acid.
Rinse with water immediately.
Previously Coated Surfaces
AQUA SEAL can be applied over worn rubber base coatings.
Do not apply over epoxy or unknown finishes.
All loose or peeling paint should be scraped or wire-brushed. If paint is severely peeling, sandblast or water blast to remove all old coating.
Scrub entire surface with tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) solution in water. Mix one cup (8 oz.) dry TSP to each gallon of water for a washing
solution. Rinse thoroughly with water. Then, the surface should be acid washed with a 10% solution of muriatic acid in water, or 2 lbs
of sulfamic acid crystals with one gallon of water. One gallon of either solution will etch approximately 100 sq. ft. Rinse immediately.
Finally, repeat the TSP wash to neutralize any remaining traces of acid. Rinse with water immediately.
APPLICATION
Uncoated Surfaces
First Coat
Apply first coat of AQUA SEAL thinned with water as a prime coat. Thin about 10% to insure penetration. Do not thin with any other
substance. Use a 9” roller and an extension handle for large areas. Trim small areas with a brush.
Second Coat
Apply the second full strength after four-hour minimum drying time.
Previously Coated Surfaces
Bare spots should be spot primed with AQUA SEAL thinned 10% with water. After spot priming, apply one or two coats at full strength.
Allow four hours minimum between coats. May be applied by brush, roller or spray.
DO NOT APPLY BELOW 50°F
